Expression of Interest for Lived Experience members to join the Mental Health Allied Health Workforce: Clinical Capabilities Framework - Advisory Group

Published on 31 Jul 2023

An Advisory Group is being established to develop a Mental Health Clinical Capabilities Framework (Framework) for use by Allied Health, Health Sciences, Aboriginal Health and Lived Experience (Peer) workforces across the public mental health system.

The Mental Health Workforce Action Plan identified the need for clear articulation of the skills and capabilities required from the workforce in providing person-centred treatment, care and support. This has been identified as a vital component of the transformational reforms that are underway within the mental health system.

The Framework will clearly articulate:

  • The skills and capabilities required for each mental health workforce in providing consistent person-centred treatment, care and support across public mental health services.
  • The skills and capabilities required to support and care for Aboriginal people.
  • Targeted career development pathways for each discipline.

The Framework will be a public mental health system-wide document that will identify shared and specific capability needs for each specialist mental health workforce group that is in scope (Allied Health, Health Science, Aboriginal Health and Lived Experience (Peer) workforces). This will include fostering formal partnerships with the education sector to deliver mental health workforce capability.

The Advisory Group will bring together Allied Health, Health Sciences, Aboriginal Health and Lived Experience (Peer) and other relevant stakeholders to develop the Mental Health Clinical Capabilities Framework.

There is complimentary work occurring in both the medical and nursing workforces that will align with this body of work.

We are seeking two Lived Experience representatives to join the Advisory Group:

  • One (1) Consumer: Personal lived experience of a mental health issue / distress or co-occurring mental health issue / distress and problematic alcohol or other drug use.
  • One (1) Family member / carer / significant other: Representative of those with a lived experience of a mental health issue / distress or co-occurring mental health issue / distress and problematic alcohol or other drug use.
